Do you ever get the mid-afternoon snack attack?? That time of the day when you begin to feel tired and feel like you need a sugary treat to keep you going for the rest of the day? This is the time when we are vulnerable to destroying a whole morning of healthy eating. We are tired, possibly lazy, and might easily give in to the cookies or doughnuts in the office kitchen that your will power has been fighting off all day.
Being prepared for these moments is key! I personally wake up very early in the morning and know that my “danger times” are between 2pm and 4pm. Not ashamed to admit it, but I just know this about myself and make sure I always have healthy snacks around me to avoid temptation of unhealthy options (yes, trainers get tempted too!).
Here is an example of one of the treats I make and keep in the fridge to battle “snack attack” hours!
RAW BROWNIE BITES (VEGAN)
2 cups walnuts
2/3 cup cacao nibs
Generous pinch sea salt (to taste)
1/4 cup raw cacao (or regular cocoa) powder
1 1/2 cups pitted dates
add protein powder to increase the protein per serving!
1. Place the walnuts, cacao nibs, sea salt, and cacao powder in a food processor and process for about 30 seconds, or till everything is pretty well crumbled up.
2. Add the dates and process for another twenty seconds or so. The mixture should be sticking together. If it’s not, keep processing till it sticks together easily when you squeeze a little in your hand. If you need to, adding a few more dates will help bind it together.
3. Shape the “dough” into balls that are about 3/4 – 1 inch thick by rolling it in your palms. Store in the fridge for 30 minutes, and then they’ll be ready to serve. Balls will keep, stored in the fridge, for two weeks.
Feel free to play around with the ingredients and get creative! If you come up with some additions you really like – leave your recipes in the comments below so we can all try!
