No More Snooze Button – How To Wake Up With Energy and Ready to Take On The Day!

A common question I get from people is how in the world I am able to get up at 4:30am (4:32am to be exact) every day and have as much energy as I do.  I also get the questions “wow what time do you go to bed every night?”, or “how do you eat breakfast that early?” and many more questions by people mind boggled by how I function with such an early rise time.

Don’t worry I’m going to give you all of my secrets (hint: it’s not 5 cups of coffee!)

Eat  High Protein Breakfast

Wake up early enough to get something to eat. Skipping meals throw your metabolism out of balance, causing you to gain fat and lose energy. Skipping breakfast also means your blood sugar will be low in the morning and energy levels down.  Even if you are not hungry, get something in your body to give you fuel to take on your morning.

Don’t Hit Snooze – Put Your Alarm Clock on the Other Side of the Room

Make a habit of standing up as soon as you hear your alarm. Of course the moment it goes off is the worst time you want to stand up, but DEAL WITH IT! There were some mornings I woke up and I could just leap out of bed; My head was still a bit tired but the consistency got my body awake fast whenever I heard the alarm. Your brain will make the association over time.

Get Lot’s Of Light! Either Natural or Artificial

If it is daylight when you wake up, be sure to open the blinds and let in as much natural light as you can; however, if you are like me and it’s pitch black outside when you wake up try to turn on lot’s of lights in the house.  I find morning time is my most productive for getting my computer work done to run my business (emails, blogging (it’s 7am as I write this), and other management tasks) I have a bright lamp next to my computer I turn on every morning while I’m doing work and it truly helps me feel more awake.

Try To Get in a Little Bit of Exercise

If you don’t have time to get in a full on workout in the morning, try doing a few push ups or jumping jacks before you get in the shower or while you are waiting for your oatmeal to cook.  If you have time to get some fresh air, this would work wonders for your mood and energy levels; however, if it’s too cold to get outside maybe crack a window in the car while you drive to work just a little to let some fresh air in.

Wake Up to Music to Improve Your Mood

Music is always my mood booster!  Now, if you live with a family or significant other who might now rise at the same time as you do they will probably not appreciate your dance party early in the morning.  Their a few ways to get around this though, try popping in some headphones while you get ready with your favorite mood boosting music or I blast my music in my car on my way to work.  Listening to plain old radio talk or news is good to find out what’s going on in the world, but might not be the best to boost your mood.  Music is truly my savior when I need an energy boost, I am already planning what I’m going to listen too as I head down to my car LOL.

Try and Get on a Sleep Schedule (Oh and Take Naps!)

As hard as this might be, due to the fact that I go to sleep around the same time each night and wake around the same time each morning my body is used to it and does not have a problem with the sleep and wake times.  I have been waking up as early as I do for about 8 or 9 years now to work my butt off, but due to the fact that I stick to a regular schedule I am able to do it without thinking twice.  I make sure I am in bed around the same time each night (10pm) whether I am tired or not and rarely have to hit the snooze button.

One more thing about my naps:  Yes I take them and yes I love them!  I consider myself the self-proclaimed NAP QUEEN lol!  With my long work days, if I can squeeze in a 30 minute nap I am all over it!  Make sure you keep naps to 30 minutes or less as I find if I sleep any longer than that, I wake up groggy and wanting to eat everything in the house.  Not sure why I wake up feeling “snacky” but I do, so I make sure I set my alarm for 30 minutes and put my phone on silent to be sure I get 30 minutes of uninterrupted zzzz’s.  I wake up ready to take on the rest of my day without sugary snacks, red bull, or coffee.

I hope this helps you all wake up with a smile on your face and ready to take on the day!! As they say “YOLO” (you only live once) let’s wake up happy to live another day and excited about the opportunities that could arise with each day!
