The Benefits of Group Fitness

We all know that exercise is vital to healthy living but there is so much more to fitness than simply “hitting the gym”! What type of exercise should I do? How do I perform certain exercises? And how do I fit exercise into my already busy schedule? are just a few things that people question when they consider adding fitness into their daily lives. Add in the easy excuses like “I don’t feel like doing the same old thing” or “No one will actually notice if I skip a day” and you have the perfect recipe for pushing exercise to the bottom of your To Do List. Enter Group Fitness Classes…the answer to all of these questions and challenges! Here are the top five benefits of group fitness classes:

1. Certified Instructor

With every fitness class comes a certified instructor whose job is to ensure that you are not only getting a workout but more importantly ensuring that you are performing the moves correctly. Proper form helps your body to get the most out of your workout while minimizing the risk of potential injury. Essentially it is the benefits of a personal trainer without the associated cost.

2. Boredom Banisher

There is nothing more boring than going to the gym and doing the same thing day in and day out. Mentally you check out and stop pushing yourself while physically your body understands that it is no longer being challenged and consequently, you stop seeing results. With group fitness classes you can choose from a variety of types of workouts and even if you only go to one type of class, every class will be different. The onus is no longer on you to think of what to do, you just have to show up and the trainer will do the rest.

3. Social Opportunities

We are all busy and fitting in everything seems impossible most of the time but enter group fitness classes once again to solve this problem! Now instead of a coffee date, you can meet friends to do a class together – socializing and exercising all in the same hour adds more time in the day. Or you can use group fitness classes to meet people. One thing is for sure, you clearly have at least one interest in common so you already have a conversation starter!

4. Accountability

When you go to the gym on your own it is easy to find excuses not to show up or to slack off if you do. Group exercise classes do not allow for that. One on hand, you have likely pre-paid or pre-booked for a class so you have to show up. On the other hand, when you are going to classes consistently people notice when you don’t show up and do you really want to own up to the fact that a date with your couch won out when they check in to see why you weren’t there?

5. Motivation

This benefit is pretty simple…It is inspiring to be surrounded by people who have similar goals and interests. Who wants to slack off when the person next to them is pushing hard and giving it their all (and then some)?
