5 Ways To Stay Healthy & Active Over Spring Break

No more classes, no more books, no more teachers dirty looks!! With the second week of Spring Break well underway, have you started to worry about what you are doing for you while the little ones are at home?? With the routine of a school day out the window, it can be easy to lose the time for workouts and commitment to healthy eating – but that doesn’t mean that all is lost!! Here are some tips to help you reaching for your goals while keeping up and spending time with your little ones!

1. Get Moving Together Over Spring Break

The weather has been on our side and rumour has it that it is going to stay that way which means the simple way to stay active is to do so with your little ones! Head to the park for a game of soccer, take a picnic and hike through Campbell Valley or take a family bike ride! This is a win-win situation because you get to keep moving while enjoying time with your little ones (and not to mention they will be falling asleep before their head hits the pillow each night)!

2. Water, Water, Water…Did I Mention Water?

This seems to be a tip that crosses over so many of our tips and tricks to staying healthy – and that is simply because it is the truth. Dehydration leaves you tired while keeping your water intake up gives you energy and helps to flush your system! Read more tips on hydration HERE

3. Get Your Spring Break Sleep

While it may seem that your little one has an endless supply of energy that you could never keep up with, one thing that may help is moving your bedtime up a bit to make sure you are getting the sleep you need. Getting enough sleep will also help you to avoid reaching for sugar and treats to give you the rush you need to get through the day.

4. Plan Your Meals

This may seem challenging as Spring Break removes the concept of routine from our lives and you never know when you will be at home, but skipping meals will only work against you as you try to maintain a healthy balance. Relaxing a little bit and allowing yourself some guilt-free treats will not derail your healthy eating goals if you ensure that you are balancing the treats out with healthy meals and snacks.

5. At-Home Workouts

Should the weather change or if all else fails, try to fit in a workout at home. Workout DVD’s or online videos can be effective in keeping you active.
